Question 1

Is the Volkswagen T-Roc made in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The T-Roc is built at Volkswagen's Autoeuropa factory in Palmela, in the Setúbal district, which earlier also produced the Sharan and the Scirocco.

Question 2

What does the emissions recall mean for a used Volkswagen diesel?

Accepted Answer

Diesels with the EA189 engine, built roughly between 2009 and 2015, were recalled for a software update after the emissions scandal. Ask for proof that it was carried out; a Volkswagen dealer can check it by chassis number.

Question 3

Are Volkswagen DSG gearboxes reliable?

Accepted Answer

The DSG generally works well when serviced, but the seven-speed dry-clutch version fitted to smaller engines has a record of mechatronic and clutch faults. Wet-clutch six- and seven-speed versions need their oil changed at set intervals.

Question 4

How much ISV does an imported Volkswagen pay?

Accepted Answer

ISV depends on engine size, CO2 emissions and age, with diesels taxed more heavily, so it varies widely between a Polo and a Passat. Many imported used cars come from Germany, so check whether the price includes ISV and Portuguese registration.
