Question 1

Was my Audi TDI part of the emissions recall?

Accepted Answer

Many 1.2, 1.6 and 2.0 TDI engines of the EA189 family, built from about 2008 to 2015, received a software update under the recall. An Audi dealer can confirm from the chassis number whether the work was done.

Question 2

Which Audi gearboxes need attention?

Accepted Answer

The Multitronic CVT on older front-wheel-drive A4 and A6 models has a poor reputation, and an S tronic dual-clutch should pull away without judder or hesitation. Ask for the gearbox service record where Audi schedules one.

Question 3

Do Audi petrol engines burn oil?

Accepted Answer

Some 1.8 and 2.0 TFSI engines from around 2008 to 2012 are known for high oil consumption linked to their piston rings. Ask how often the owner tops up and whether the pistons or rings were replaced.

Question 4

How are an Audi e-tron and a TFSI e taxed in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

A fully electric e-tron pays no IUC and no ISV on import. A TFSI e plug-in hybrid pays both, calculated on its engine size and low official CO2.
