Question 1

How much ISV does an imported Porsche pay?

Accepted Answer

ISV is calculated on engine size and CO2 emissions, reduced according to the car's age, so a large-engined Porsche brought in from abroad can owe a substantial sum. Ask whether the price includes ISV and registration at the Registo Automóvel, or estimate the tax with the tax authority's online simulator before agreeing.

Question 2

What is the IMS bearing problem on older Porsches?

Accepted Answer

The flat-six engines in the 996 and early 997 911, and in Boxsters and Caymans of the same period, use an intermediate shaft bearing that can fail and wreck the engine. Ask whether it has been replaced with an upgraded part, and look for invoices for the work.

Question 3

Do plug-in hybrid and electric Porsches save tax in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

A fully electric Taycan pays no IUC and paid no ISV on first registration. Plug-in hybrid Cayenne and Panamera models can qualify for reduced ISV if they meet the electric range and emissions limits in force, while their yearly IUC still depends on engine size and CO2.

Question 4

Is a Porsche Approved car worth the extra over a private sale?

Accepted Answer

Porsche Approved cars are sold by official Porsche centres, inspected against the brand's checklist and covered by a Porsche warranty. A private sale can cost less, but the IPO only checks roadworthiness, so an inspection by a Porsche specialist before buying is money well spent.
