Question 1

Is a used Skoda as reliable as a Volkswagen?

Accepted Answer

Mechanically they are very close: Skoda uses the same engines, gearboxes and platforms as Volkswagen, SEAT and Audi. The Group's known weak points therefore apply too, such as the dry-clutch seven-speed DSG on smaller petrol engines.

Question 2

Which Skoda estate suits a family?

Accepted Answer

The Octavia Estate has one of the largest boots in its class, and the Superb Estate is roomier still. For seven seats, the Kodiaq is the one with an optional third row.

Question 3

What should I check on a used Skoda Enyaq?

Accepted Answer

Ask for a battery health report and check which charging power that version supports, since it varies. Electric cars are exempt from IUC in Portugal, which lowers the yearly running costs.

Question 4

Does an imported Skoda cost more to register in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

A car brought in from another EU country pays ISV before it gets Portuguese plates, based on engine size and CO2 emissions with a reduction for age. Buying one already registered in Portugal means that tax has been settled.
