Is the Skoda 2.0 TDI a good engine?

Yes, the 2.0 TDI is one of the Volkswagen Group's most widely used engines and handles high mileage when serviced on time. On versions caught up in the emissions scandal, check that the update was carried out.

Is a diesel Skoda suitable for city driving only?

It is not the best choice: on short trips the particulate filter cannot finish regenerating and ends up blocked. For urban use, a petrol Skoda TSI usually causes fewer problems.

What should you check on a used diesel Skoda Octavia?

Check the dual-mass flywheel, the injectors and the particulate filter, plus the AdBlue system on versions that use it. A lit engine warning light calls for a diagnostic before buying.
