Question 1

What should I check on an Audi with an S tronic gearbox?

Accepted Answer

The S tronic is a dual-clutch gearbox, and jerks when pulling away or slow shifts can point to worn clutches or a tired mechatronic unit. Ask whether the gearbox oil has been changed at the interval Audi sets, and test the car in slow traffic.

Question 2

Do older Audi TFSI engines burn oil?

Accepted Answer

Some earlier 1.8 and 2.0 TFSI petrol engines are known for high oil consumption, usually traced to the piston rings. Ask for proof of a repair or an oil consumption test, and check the level before buying.

Question 3

Which Crit'Air sticker does a used Audi get?

Accepted Answer

It depends on fuel and Euro standard: a Euro 5 or 6 diesel gets Crit'Air 2, a Euro 5 or 6 petrol Crit'Air 1 and the electric e-tron models Crit'Air 0. The sticker decides access to the low-emission zones of cities such as Paris or Lyon.

Question 4

Is the carte grise dearer for an Audi?

Accepted Answer

The regional tax on the certificat d'immatriculation is charged per cheval fiscal, so registering a powerful A6 or Q7 costs noticeably more than an A1. Each region sets its own rate per cheval fiscal.
