Question 1

Is the Audi A5 Avant the new A4 Avant?

Accepted Answer

Yes. From 2024 Audi gave even numbers to its electric models, so the combustion-engined successor to the A4 Avant is called A5 Avant. The A6 Avant name now covers both a combustion model and the electric A6 Avant e-tron.

Question 2

What should I check on an older Audi Avant?

Accepted Answer

Early Multitronic CVT gearboxes in front-wheel-drive A4 and A6 models can judder and are expensive to repair. Some 2.0 TFSI petrol engines from around 2008 to 2012 burn oil, so ask whether the pistons or rings were replaced under a campaign.

Question 3

What is the difference between an Audi Avant and an allroad?

Accepted Answer

The allroad is an Avant raised for more ground clearance, with body cladding and quattro all-wheel drive as standard. It suits rough tracks and snowy roads, while the regular Avant sits lower and uses less fuel.

Question 4

Which Crit'Air sticker does a diesel Audi estate get?

Accepted Answer

A Euro 5 or Euro 6 TDI gets Crit'Air 2, while an older Euro 4 diesel gets Crit'Air 3, which low-emission zones restrict sooner. Petrol and plug-in hybrid versions from Euro 5 onward get Crit'Air 1.
