Question 1

Does the emissions scandal affect my Audi TDI?

Accepted Answer

The Euro 5 1.6 and 2.0 TDI engines of the EA189 family, fitted from about 2008 to 2015, needed a software update, and some 3.0 TDI V6 engines were later recalled too. An Audi dealer can check from the VIN whether the work was done.

Question 2

What happens if an Audi TDI runs out of AdBlue?

Accepted Answer

Euro 6 TDIs inject AdBlue into the exhaust to cut nitrogen oxides, and the tank needs topping up between services. If it runs dry or the system fails, the car counts down a distance and will not restart once it reaches zero.

Question 3

Is an Audi TDI suited to town driving?

Accepted Answer

The particulate filter only cleans itself on longer runs at higher revs, so a car used purely for short trips can clog it. If you drive almost only in town, a petrol or hybrid Audi is often the better choice.

Question 4

When is the timing belt due on an Audi TDI?

Accepted Answer

The 2.0 TDI uses a timing belt that must be replaced after a set mileage or number of years, whichever comes first. Ask for the invoice; if there is none, factor the job into your offer.
