Question 1

Is a high-mileage Toyota hybrid a risk?

Accepted Answer

Toyota's hybrid system has a good record for durability, but the battery and inverter are expensive to replace. Ask a Toyota workshop for a hybrid health check, which reads the battery's condition, and find out whether the car worked as a taxi or TVDE vehicle.

Question 2

Does Toyota's extended warranty pass to the next owner?

Accepted Answer

Toyota's extended cover is tied to the car and depends on it being serviced in the brand's network on schedule. Ask the seller for the service record and confirm with a Toyota dealer that the cover is still active.

Question 3

How is a Toyota hybrid taxed in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

For cars registered from July 2007 the IUC depends on engine size and CO2, so a hybrid's low emissions keep it modest. An imported hybrid pays ISV on the same basis.

Question 4

What changes with a Toyota Hilux or Land Cruiser?

Accepted Answer

Pick-ups and some off-roaders are often registered as light goods vehicles, which have their own IUC category and a different IPO calendar from passenger cars. Check the category on the registration certificate before comparing running costs.
