Question 1

What is the Fiat Dualogic gearbox?

Accepted Answer

Dualogic is a robotised manual gearbox offered on older 500s and Pandas, among others, with a clutch worked by an actuator rather than a pedal. It can feel jerky, and actuator or clutch repairs are costly, so test it from a standstill and in slow manoeuvres.

Question 2

Which Fiat engines need particular attention?

Accepted Answer

The 0.9 TwinAir two-cylinder is lively but often uses more fuel in real driving than its official figures suggest. The MultiJet diesels suit long distances, yet a car used mainly for short trips can clog its particulate filter.

Question 3

What should be checked on a Fiat Ducato-based motorhome?

Accepted Answer

The Fiat chassis and engine are serviced like a van, but the living area built on top needs its own inspection. Look for damp in the walls and floor, and have the gas and electrical installations checked separately from the vehicle.

Question 4

Which Crit'Air sticker does a Fiat diesel get?

Accepted Answer

A Fiat diesel meeting Euro 5 or Euro 6 gets Crit'Air 2, and older diesels a higher number that low-emission zones restrict sooner. Petrol models from 2011 onwards get Crit'Air 1, and the 500e the green zero-emission sticker.

Question 5

What should I check on a used Fiat 500e?

Accepted Answer

The electric 500e launched in 2020 was offered with a smaller and a larger battery, so confirm which one a car has and how far it goes on a charge. Ask for a battery health check and make sure the charging cables come with it.
