Question 1

What should I know about buying a used Renault Zoe?

Accepted Answer

Many older Zoes were sold with the battery rented rather than owned, which means a monthly contract on top of the car. Ask whether the battery is included and, if it is leased, how the contract passes to you. Have the battery's state of health checked as well.

Question 2

Are Renaults expensive to maintain in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

Renault has long been one of the most common makes on Portuguese roads, so dealers, independent garages and parts are found in every region. That keeps servicing and repairs easy to arrange, even away from the big cities.

Question 3

Should I choose a Renault dCi diesel or a TCe petrol?

Accepted Answer

A dCi suits long distances, but diesels pay an IUC surcharge and their particulate filters dislike short trips. For mostly urban driving, a TCe petrol or an E-Tech hybrid is usually the better match.

Question 4

Do electric Renaults pay road tax?

Accepted Answer

Fully electric cars such as the Zoe and the Mégane E-Tech Electric are exempt from IUC in Portugal and paid no ISV when first registered. Hybrids pay IUC like other combustion cars, on engine size and CO2.
