Does the Renault 1.2 TCe engine burn oil?

Some 1.2 TCe engines built up to around 2016 suffered excessive oil consumption and timing chain wear. A car with the repair done, or with regular recorded servicing, is the safer choice.

What is the difference between Renault SCe and TCe engines?

SCe means a simpler naturally aspirated engine, like the Twingo's, while TCe means a turbo engine with more torque and lower consumption on the open road. An SCe is enough for town, while a TCe is more relaxed on regular long trips.

Is a petrol Renault better than a diesel?

For low mileage or mostly town driving, yes: a petrol Renault avoids the particulate filter and EGR trouble of the dCi diesels. Diesel only pays off at high annual mileages.

Recent petrol Renaults mostly use TCe turbo engines: the 0.9 or 1.0 three-cylinder in the Clio and Captur, and the 1.2 and 1.3 in larger models. On early 1.2 TCe engines, it is worth asking about oil consumption.
