Question 1

What should I check on a used Renault with the 1.5 dCi diesel?

Accepted Answer

The 1.5 dCi is frugal and widespread, but its timing belt must be replaced at the interval Renault specifies. Ask for invoices for the belt and water pump, and listen for rough running that can point to tired injectors.

Question 2

Does the Renault 1.2 TCe petrol engine have known problems?

Accepted Answer

Some 1.2 TCe engines from the mid-2010s were known to consume oil excessively. Check the oil level before the test drive and ask whether a Renault workshop has already carried out the related repair.

Question 3

How is a used Renault transferred to a new owner in Porto?

Accepted Answer

The change of ownership is registered at the Registo Automóvel, online or at a registry office, and the seller should hand over proof of paid IUC. If the car is old enough to need it, the IPO inspection certificate must also be valid.

Question 4

Are hybrid Renault models available second-hand?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the Clio, Captur and Arkana have been sold with E-Tech hybrid powertrains, and the Captur and Mégane also as plug-in hybrids. They suit frequent urban driving, where the electric motor does more of the work.
