Question 1

Is a diesel Porsche Macan or Cayenne worth buying?

Accepted Answer

The Macan S Diesel was sold until 2018 and the Cayenne also had diesel versions, which suit long motorway runs to Lisbon or Spain. In Portugal a diesel pays an additional IUC charge on top of the normal tax, so weigh the fuel savings against that yearly cost.

Question 2

What should I check on a Porsche Cayenne or Panamera with air suspension?

Accepted Answer

Leave the car parked and see whether it sits level the next morning, since a leaking air spring or valve lets one corner drop. On a test drive every height setting should work without warnings, and the compressor should not run for long after each change.

Question 3

Which Porsche 911 models are air-cooled?

Accepted Answer

Every 911 up to the 993 generation, which ended in 1998, is air-cooled, and the 996 that followed was the first with water cooling. Air-cooled cars are bought as classics, so originality, documented history and matching numbers matter as much as mechanical condition.

Question 4

What does a first-generation Porsche Cayenne need checked?

Accepted Answer

On the first Cayenne V8 the coolant pipes in the valley of the engine were plastic and are known to crack with age, so ask whether they have been replaced with metal ones. The transfer case and the propeller shaft centre bearing are also worth a specialist's look.
