Question 1

Why does an Audi S tronic judder in Lisbon traffic?

Accepted Answer

The seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox fitted to many A1, A3 and Q2 models uses dry clutches that dislike creeping in queues and hill starts. On a test drive, pull away gently on a slope and in slow traffic: judder or clunks point to clutch or mechatronic wear.

Question 2

Can an older Audi enter central Lisbon?

Accepted Answer

The low-emission zone covering the Avenida da Liberdade, the Baixa and Chiado restricts cars below a minimum emissions standard on weekdays. If you will drive downtown regularly, check the city's current rules against the car's Euro standard before you buy.

Question 3

Is a diesel Audi a good choice for Lisbon?

Accepted Answer

A TDI suits a daily motorway commute from Sintra, Cascais or the south bank of the Tagus, but short trips in traffic can clog its particulate filter. It also pays an extra IUC charge, so a petrol TFSI or a TFSI e often makes more sense for town use.

Question 4

What should I check on an imported Audi?

Accepted Answer

Many used Audis are brought into Portugal from other EU countries. Make sure the ISV has been paid or is included in the price, and that the car is registered at the Registo Automóvel in the seller's name before you hand over any money.
