Which Mercedes A-Class generation should I buy?

The W177 sold from 2018 brings the MBUX system, more driver aids and a roomier cabin than the W176. The W176 is the cheaper way into the badge for buyers who can live without the latest technology.

What are the weak points of the Mercedes A-Class?

The 7G-DCT dual-clutch gearbox can be jerky at low speed, so it should shift smoothly on the test drive. On the W177, check that the MBUX screens and driver aids work, and on a diesel that the AdBlue system shows no warning.

Which Crit'Air sticker does a Mercedes A-Class get in France?

A petrol or plug-in hybrid A-Class registered from 2011 gets Crit'Air 1 and a diesel from the same years Crit'Air 2; older W168 and W169 cars get a higher class. The sticker decides access to France's low-emission zones.
