Question 1

Does Volvo still make diesel cars?

Accepted Answer

No. Volvo built its last diesel car in 2024, but D3, D4 and D5 versions remain common second-hand. Euro 6 diesels carry Crit'Air 2, which some low-emission zones restrict.

Question 2

What should I check on a Volvo Recharge plug-in hybrid?

Accepted Answer

Ask how often the car was charged and test its electric range on a full battery, since a plug-in hybrid driven mostly on petrol has worked its engine harder. The original charging cable should come with the car.

Question 3

What does Google built-in mean on a Volvo?

Accepted Answer

From 2020, starting with the XC40 Recharge, Volvo moved its infotainment to Android Automotive with Google Maps and Google Assistant built in. Older Sensus systems were not converted to it, so check which one a car has if built-in navigation matters to you.

Question 4

How do Volvo's B4 and B5 badges differ from D4 and D5?

Accepted Answer

B denotes a mild hybrid, a petrol or diesel engine helped by a small 48-volt electric system, while D marked the earlier pure diesels. The mild-hybrid system cannot drive the car on electricity alone and needs no charging.
