Which is the best automatic gearbox in the Peugeot 308?

The eight-speed EAT8, fitted from 2017, is the smoothest and most efficient. The six-speed EAT6 before it is also robust, provided its fluid has been changed.

Should I avoid a Peugeot 308 with the ETG6 gearbox?

The ETG6 is a robotised manual, slow to shift and jerky in traffic, rather than a true automatic. Buyers after comfort should choose the EAT6 or EAT8.

Does the automatic Peugeot 308 use more fuel than the manual?

With the EAT8, consumption is very close to the equivalent manual. The old four-speed AL4 in the first generation used noticeably more.

The first generation used the old four-speed AL4 and some second-generation cars the ETG6 robotised manual, both with a poor reputation; the torque-converter EAT6 and EAT8 are the ones to look for.
