What is the problem with the Peugeot 308 1.2 PureTech engine?

Its timing belt runs in oil and can shed particles over time that block the lubrication system. Check when it was last replaced and that the car has always had the oil grade Peugeot specifies.

Is the Peugeot 308 1.6 THP reliable?

The 1.6 THP is lively and strong, but early versions suffer from timing chain stretch and oil consumption. A metallic rattle on a cold start is a warning sign.

Is a petrol Peugeot 308 better than a diesel?

For low mileage, mostly in town, yes: the PureTech avoids particulate filter and AdBlue trouble. For frequent long journeys, the BlueHDi still uses less fuel.
