Question 1

Which Countryman generation is best to buy used?

Accepted Answer

The second generation, sold from 2017, is roomier and better finished than the first and avoids its troublesome 1.6 petrol engines. The third generation, from 2024, is larger again and includes a fully electric version.

Question 2

What should I check on a Countryman plug-in hybrid?

Accepted Answer

Ask for the charging cable and check that the car charges properly, since the battery provides the electric range that makes it worthwhile. Its fuel tank is smaller than on the petrol versions, which shortens the range on long trips.

Question 3

Is ALL4 worth having on a Mini Countryman?

Accepted Answer

ALL4 helps on wet or loose roads and on dirt tracks, but adds weight and some fuel consumption. For town and motorway driving, a front-wheel-drive Countryman is enough.

Question 4

How much IUC does a Countryman pay in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

The IUC depends on engine size and CO2 emissions, so diesels and Cooper S versions pay more than a plug-in hybrid, and an electric Countryman is exempt. An imported Countryman also pays ISV.
