Question 1

What licence do you need to drive a Ford Transit?

Accepted Answer

A Ford Transit with a gross weight of up to 3,500 kg can be driven on a category B car licence, which covers most versions. Heavier chassis cab or high-payload versions may need a C1 licence. The gross weight is shown on the registration certificate.

Question 2

Which Ford van engine is the most reliable?

Accepted Answer

The 2.2 TDCi in older Transit and Transit Custom vans has a reputation for toughness, with the dual-mass flywheel and injectors as the points to watch. The 2.0 EcoBlue that replaced it is more economical, but its oil-immersed belt needs the correct oil and service intervals kept. In the Connect and Courier, the 1.5 TDCi and EcoBlue are the usual choice.

Question 3

Is it worth buying a used Ford Transit through a company in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

Usually yes, because VAT on a light goods vehicle is deductible for businesses, unlike most passenger cars. These vans have a more frequent IPO inspection than a car. Check the mileage history carefully, as a fleet van covers a lot of ground in little time.
