Question 1

What should I check on a Ford Transit Connect from a Leiria business?

Accepted Answer

Look for wear on the load floor, sliding door runners and rear doors, and check the clutch, which suffers on vans that made many short delivery stops. A van registered as a light goods vehicle follows a different IPO calendar from a passenger car, so check the category on the registration certificate.

Question 2

Which Ford suits a daily drive on the A8 to Lisbon?

Accepted Answer

Long, steady motorway runs favour a Focus or Kuga with a TDCi or EcoBlue diesel, whose particulate filter thrives on them; many EcoBlue engines need AdBlue too. The self-charging Kuga hybrid avoids the diesel IUC surcharge and is economical in the traffic nearer Lisbon.

Question 3

Does the sea air at Nazaré or Peniche harm a Ford?

Accepted Answer

Yes: salt and Atlantic spray speed up corrosion of the brake discs, exhaust, underbody and door bottoms. Look underneath any Ford kept near the coast, especially an older Fiesta, Focus or van.

Question 4

What is the known weak point of Ford's 1.0 EcoBoost?

Accepted Answer

Its timing belt runs in oil and must be replaced at Ford's interval, using the specified oil throughout; a worn belt can shed debris that blocks the oil supply. Ask for proof of oil changes and of the belt replacement once it is due.
