Question 1

Ford Puma or Kuga?

Accepted Answer

The Puma is a compact crossover with a raised seat and a large boot with a deep, washable well under the floor, mostly with the 1.0 EcoBoost mild hybrid. The Kuga is a size up, with more rear space and the widest choice of engines, including diesel and plug-in hybrid.

Question 2

What should I check on a Ford Kuga plug-in hybrid?

Accepted Answer

Early Kuga plug-in hybrids were recalled over battery cells that could overheat, so ask a Ford dealer to confirm from the chassis number that the work was done. Check too that the car charges properly and shows a sensible electric range after a full charge.

Question 3

Do Ford SUVs have four-wheel drive?

Accepted Answer

Not all of them. The Puma is front-wheel drive only, on the EcoSport and Kuga all-wheel drive came on certain versions, and the Mustang Mach-E has rear- or all-wheel drive depending on the version. Check the specification of the exact car rather than assuming.

Question 4

How much IUC does a Ford SUV pay?

Accepted Answer

For cars registered from July 2007, the IUC depends on engine size and CO2 emissions, and diesels pay an additional charge, so a large diesel Edge costs more each year than a petrol Puma. The fully electric Mustang Mach-E pays no IUC.
