Question 1

What care does a petrol Ford EcoBoost need?

Accepted Answer

EcoBoost engines are direct-injection turbos and need oil to Ford's specification, changed on time. On the 1.0, the oil-immersed timing belt degrades when servicing lapses, and early units had cooling problems. A full service history and a stable coolant level are good signs.

Question 2

Petrol or hybrid Ford: which should you choose?

Accepted Answer

The EcoBoost Hybrid versions of the Fiesta, Focus and Puma add a 48-volt system to the 1.0 that helps when pulling away and cuts consumption, with nothing to plug in. The Kuga also comes as a full hybrid and a plug-in, which only pays off if you can charge at home. For light use, a plain 1.0 EcoBoost is the cheapest.

Question 3

How much IUC road tax does a petrol Ford pay?

Accepted Answer

The IUC on a petrol Ford depends on engine size, CO2 emissions and the year of first registration. The 1.0 EcoBoost, with its small displacement and modest emissions, is among the cheapest in the range. Large engines, such as the Mustang's V8, pay much more.
