Question 1

Is the 1.0 EcoBoost reliable in the Puma?

Accepted Answer

It is a widely used engine, but its timing belt runs immersed in oil and must be inspected and replaced on schedule, as a degraded belt can starve the engine of oil. Ask for the service record showing that work.

Question 2

What does the Puma's mild-hybrid system do?

Accepted Answer

A 48-volt starter-generator recovers energy when slowing and assists the engine when pulling away, trimming fuel use a little. The car cannot drive on electricity alone, so it drives and refuels like an ordinary petrol car.

Question 3

What is the Puma ST?

Accepted Answer

It is the performance version, with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol, firmer suspension and sports seats. Its larger engine means a higher IUC than the 1.0 versions.

Question 4

Is the Ford Puma the same car as the old Puma coupé?

Accepted Answer

No. The name first belonged to a small Fiesta-based coupé sold from 1997 to 2002; today's Puma is a crossover introduced in 2019. Apart from the badge, the two share only their Fiesta roots.

Question 5

What is the Puma's MegaBox?

Accepted Answer

A deep, plastic-lined well under the boot floor with a drain plug, so muddy boots or wet gear can be washed out. With the floor lifted out, the boot is unusually tall for the class.
