Question 1

Which Punto generations are there?

Accepted Answer

After the first Punto of 1993 came the second generation in 1999, the larger Grande Punto in 2005, the facelifted Punto Evo in 2009 and the final Punto, sold until 2018. The last three share a platform, while the second generation is a different, smaller car.

Question 2

Should I buy a petrol 1.2 or a 1.3 Multijet diesel Fiat Punto?

Accepted Answer

The 1.2 petrol is simple, cheap to maintain and suits short town trips. The 1.3 Multijet pays back over longer distances, though later versions have a particulate filter that does not like a life of short runs.

Question 3

What does a Punto pay in IUC?

Accepted Answer

A Punto registered before July 2007 pays according to engine size and age, which puts it among the cheapest cars to tax. Later ones pay on engine size and CO2, still low for these small petrol and diesel engines.

Question 4

What are the Punto's known weak points?

Accepted Answer

On the second-generation Punto, the electric power steering can fail, often with a warning light or heavy steering. The Dualogic automated manual gearbox can suffer actuator faults, and on the 1.3 Multijet a rattle on start-up may mean a stretched timing chain.
