Question 1

What should I ask about the PureTech engine on a Lisbon Citroën?

Accepted Answer

The 1.2 PureTech petrol has a timing belt that runs in oil, and frequent short stop-start trips age it faster. Ask when it was inspected or replaced and see the invoice. Stellantis has offered extended cover on the belt for qualifying cars, and a Citroën dealer can tell you whether this one is included.

Question 2

Is a Citroën BlueHDi diesel a good idea for driving in Lisbon?

Accepted Answer

A BlueHDi suits regular motorway runs, such as a commute from Sintra or the south bank of the Tagus, but short trips can clog its particulate filter. Check that no AdBlue warning shows on the dashboard, and remember that diesels pay an additional IUC charge in Portugal.

Question 3

Can an older Citroën drive into central Lisbon?

Accepted Answer

The low-emission zone around the Avenida da Liberdade, the Baixa and Chiado restricts older cars by their Euro standard on weekdays. If you will drive downtown often, check the city's current rules against the car's registration date.

Question 4

Does an electric Citroën ë-C4 or ë-C3 make sense in Lisbon?

Accepted Answer

For city driving it does, and fully electric cars pay no IUC. Without a garage you will rely on the public Mobi.E network, so look at the chargers near your home and work before you buy.

Question 5

How is ownership of a Citroën bought in Lisbon transferred?

Accepted Answer

The change of owner is registered at the Registo Automóvel, online or at a registry office, and a dealer usually handles it. In a private sale, ask the seller for proof that the IUC is paid and for a valid IPO where the car's age requires one.
