Question 1

Is a Citroën Berlingo van taxed like a passenger car?

Accepted Answer

No: a Berlingo van is registered as a light goods vehicle, which brings a different IUC and a different IPO calendar from the passenger Berlingo. Check the category on the Documento Único Automóvel, and remember that converting a van to carry passengers needs approval.

Question 2

What does the Minho's rain mean for a used Citroën?

Accepted Answer

Look for damp carpets, a musty smell and condensation inside, often caused by blocked drains below the windscreen or tired door seals. Check under the car and around the wheel arches for corrosion, particularly on older models.

Question 3

What should I check on a Citroën BlueHDi diesel?

Accepted Answer

Most BlueHDi engines use AdBlue to cut emissions, so make sure the tank and system show no warnings, as repairs can be costly. Regular runs on the A3 or A11 also help the particulate filter, which suffers on a car used only for short trips.

Question 4

Why ask about the timing belt on a Citroën PureTech?

Accepted Answer

The 1.2 PureTech's belt runs in engine oil and can wear early, shedding debris that lowers the oil pressure. Ask for invoices showing it was inspected or replaced, and that the oil Citroën specifies was used.
