Question 1

What should I check on a Citroën with the 1.2 PureTech engine?

Accepted Answer

The 1.2 PureTech has a timing belt that runs in engine oil, and on some cars it breaks down early and sheds debris into the oil. Ask for proof of when the belt was inspected or replaced and which oil was used. A low oil pressure warning should be explained before you buy.

Question 2

Is a BlueHDi diesel Citroën a good buy?

Accepted Answer

BlueHDi engines are economical on long runs and common in the C4, C5 Aircross and Berlingo. They use AdBlue, so check that no warning about the AdBlue system or the particulate filter appears. Cars used only for short trips in town are harder on the filter.

Question 3

Is the Citroën Berlingo a car or a van?

Accepted Answer

Both. The Berlingo comes as a five- or seven-seat passenger car and as the Berlingo Van for work, which is registered as a goods vehicle. The Portuguese registration document, the Documento Único, shows which one you are buying.

Question 4

Do electric Citroëns pay IUC in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

Fully electric models such as the ë-C4 and ë-C3 are exempt from IUC and ISV in Portugal. Check the battery's state of health and that the charging cable comes with the car. The battery warranty runs by years and kilometres from first registration.
