How much is the carte grise for a used sports car in France?

The carte grise is based on fiscal horsepower and the regional rate, so a powerful sports car costs much more to register. The amount is halved for a car over ten years old.

Does an imported sports car pay the malus in France?

Yes, an imported used car pays the ecological malus when first registered in France, reduced according to its age. On a high-CO2 sports car this can be a large sum, so work it out before buying abroad.

What should I check before buying a used sports car in France?

Ask for the full service history, check the wear on brakes, tyres and clutch, and look for signs of track use. Beyond four years old, a contrôle technique less than six months old is required for the sale.
