Question 1

Is the timing belt on the C5 Aircross 1.2 PureTech a worry?

Accepted Answer

The 1.2 PureTech uses a belt that runs in engine oil, and on some engines it has degraded early and clogged the oil pickup. Ask for invoices showing the belt checked or replaced, and whether the oil grade and change intervals Citroën specifies were followed.

Question 2

Which Crit'Air sticker does a C5 Aircross get?

Accepted Answer

BlueHDi diesels get Crit'Air 2, while the PureTech petrol and the plug-in hybrid get Crit'Air 1. The sticker decides access to the low-emission zones that French cities have set up.

Question 3

What should I check on the C5 Aircross plug-in hybrid?

Accepted Answer

Ask how it was charged and test that the charging cable and socket work, since a hybrid that was never plugged in has run on petrol alone. The high-voltage battery carries its own warranty, longer than the car's, so check how much of it remains.

Question 4

Is the C5 Aircross practical for a family?

Accepted Answer

The three rear seats are the same width and each slides, reclines and folds on its own, which lets the boot grow when needed. It is front-wheel drive, so Grip Control helps on mud and snow but does not replace four-wheel drive.
