Question 1

Why are Toyota hybrids so common in Lisbon?

Accepted Answer

Toyota's self-charging hybrids use their electric motor most in slow, stop-start traffic, which keeps consumption low in the city, and the e-CVT gearbox has no clutch to wear on the hills. Taxi and TVDE fleets choose them for the same reasons.

Question 2

How can I tell if a Toyota was a taxi or TVDE car?

Accepted Answer

Look for very high mileage for the car's age, a company as previous owner, worn rear seats and marks where a taxi sign or livery was fitted. Ask the seller directly and check the service record.

Question 3

Can an older Toyota enter central Lisbon?

Accepted Answer

Lisbon's low-emission zone around the Avenida da Liberdade and the Baixa restricts older cars by their Euro standard on weekdays. An older diesel Toyota may be affected, so if you will drive downtown, check the city's current rules against the car's Euro standard.

Question 4

Is a Toyota hybrid's battery still covered?

Accepted Answer

Toyota Relax extends cover each time the car is serviced at an official Toyota workshop, and a hybrid health check reads the battery's condition. The cover stays with the car, so the Toyota service record shows whether it still runs.
