Question 1

How do I know if a used Renault Zoe has a rented battery?

Accepted Answer

Ask the seller for the battery rental contract or proof that the battery was bought, and confirm with Renault using the VIN. With a rented battery the buyer takes over the monthly contract or buys the battery out where that is offered, so settle it before talking price.

Question 2

Is a Renault Zoe with a rented battery a bad buy?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily: it tends to cost less to buy, but the rental adds a monthly charge for as long as the contract runs. Compare the total over the years you expect to keep it with an equivalent Zoe whose battery is owned.

Question 3

What should I check on the battery of a used electric Renault?

Accepted Answer

Ask for a state-of-health report from a Renault workshop or a diagnostic check, and compare the range on a full charge with what the car offered new. See how much of the battery warranty remains from the date of first registration.

Question 4

Do electric Renaults pay road tax in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

No. Battery-electric cars, Renault's included, are exempt from the annual IUC and from ISV on import. Renault's hybrids and plug-in hybrids, such as the Clio, Captur or Austral E-Tech, do not share that full exemption.

Question 5

Can I charge a used electric Renault on public chargers in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

Yes, public charging points in Portugal run on the Mobi.E network, used with a card or app from a charging provider. Check which charging sockets and speeds the particular car accepts, since they differ between models and versions.
