Question 1

What is the difference between a Renault E-Tech full hybrid and a plug-in hybrid?

Accepted Answer

A full hybrid recharges its small battery while driving and braking, so it never needs plugging in. A plug-in hybrid has a larger battery that you charge from a socket, which lets it cover short trips on electricity alone when kept charged.

Question 2

Which Renault models are sold as hybrids?

Accepted Answer

The E-Tech full hybrid system is fitted to the Clio, Captur, Arkana and Austral. The Captur and the Mégane were also offered as E-Tech plug-in hybrids.

Question 3

Does a used Renault hybrid pay less tax in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

An imported hybrid can get a reduced ISV, depending on conditions on electric range and CO2 emissions. Unlike an electric car it still pays the annual IUC, which for cars registered since July 2007 depends on engine size and CO2.

Question 4

Is a plug-in hybrid worth it if I cannot charge at home?

Accepted Answer

Only partly. Without regular charging a plug-in hybrid carries a heavy battery while running mostly on petrol, so a full hybrid often suits drivers without a socket at home or at work better.

Question 5

What should I check on the battery of a second-hand Renault hybrid?

Accepted Answer

Ask how much of the manufacturer's battery warranty remains, counted from the date of first registration. A Renault workshop can read the battery's state of health with its diagnostic equipment.
