Question 1

Does a used Renault dCi need a new timing belt?

Accepted Answer

The 1.5 dCi uses a timing belt that must be replaced at the mileage or age interval Renault sets. Ask for proof that it has been done; if there is none, budget for it straight after purchase.

Question 2

What should I ask about a used Renault Zoe?

Accepted Answer

Some early Zoes were sold with the battery leased rather than owned. Ask whether the battery belongs to the car; if it is leased, the contract has to be transferred and its monthly fee added to the running costs.

Question 3

Is a Renault Kangoo taxed like a car?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. A Kangoo or Trafic registered as a light goods vehicle falls into a different IUC category from a passenger car, and its inspection rules can differ too. Check the vehicle category on the registration document.

Question 4

Where is the purchase of a Renault registered?

Accepted Answer

Ownership is recorded at the Registo Automóvel, online or at a registry office. A dealer in Braga will usually handle it; in a private sale both parties sign the request, and the buyer should check that the IUC and IPO are up to date.
