Question 1

Which Captur generation should I look at?

Accepted Answer

The first generation, launched in 2013, is the more affordable used choice and shares much with the Clio of its time. The second, from 2019, is larger, has a more modern cabin and adds E-Tech full and plug-in hybrid versions.

Question 2

Petrol, diesel or hybrid Captur?

Accepted Answer

The dCi diesel suits long motorway runs but pays the IUC surcharge on diesel cars, and its particulate filter dislikes short trips. A TCe petrol is the simpler city choice, and the E-Tech hybrid saves the most fuel in town.

Question 3

Is the Captur's EDC automatic reliable?

Accepted Answer

The EDC is a dual-clutch gearbox, smooth on the move but sensitive to slow traffic. On a test drive, check for judder or hesitation when pulling away and reversing, and ask whether the gearbox has been serviced.

Question 4

What should I check on a 1.2 TCe Captur?

Accepted Answer

Early 1.2 TCe petrol engines in the first-generation Captur were known for oil consumption. Check the oil level, ask how often it has been topped up and look for invoices for work done in the Renault network.
