Question 1

What is the difference between the two generations of the Peugeot 508?

Accepted Answer

The first 508, built from 2010 to 2018, is a traditional four-door saloon or SW estate with a conventional dashboard. The second generation, launched in 2018, is a lower fastback with a tailgate, frameless doors and Peugeot's i-Cockpit, and it is also offered as an SW estate.

Question 2

Should I choose a diesel or plug-in hybrid Peugeot 508?

Accepted Answer

The BlueHDi diesels suit long motorway mileage and are the most common used. The plug-in hybrid makes sense if you can charge at home and cover short daily distances on electricity; driven mostly on petrol, it loses its advantage.

Question 3

What should I check on a Peugeot 508 BlueHDi diesel?

Accepted Answer

Ask whether the AdBlue tank, pump or injector has been replaced or repaired, as faults there can stop the engine from restarting and are a known expense on these engines. A diesel that has only done short trips may also have a clogged particulate filter.

Question 4

How much IUC does a Peugeot 508 pay in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

For a car first registered from July 2007, the IUC depends on engine size and CO2 emissions, and diesels pay an extra surcharge. The exact amount for a given car can be worked out on the Portal das Finanças.
