Question 1

Does the Kia seven-year warranty pass to a second owner?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The warranty of seven years or 150,000 km from first registration belongs to the car and transfers with it when it is sold. It holds only if every service followed Kia's schedule, so ask to see the stamped service book.

Question 2

Is a hybrid Kia worth it for driving in Lisbon?

Accepted Answer

In the crawl along the Segunda Circular or through the Baixa, a Niro hybrid runs on electricity much of the time and recovers energy under braking. If you can charge at home or at work, a plug-in or a Niro EV makes even more of it.

Question 3

Do electric Kias pay IUC in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

No, fully electric cars are exempt from IUC, Portugal's annual road tax. Hybrid and combustion models pay it on engine size and, if registered from July 2007, on CO2 emissions as well.

Question 4

How can I tell whether a used Kia is still under finance?

Accepted Answer

A certificate from the Registo Automóvel shows whether a lender holds a reserva de propriedade, a retention of title, over the car. It has to be cancelled before the transfer, or ownership cannot pass to you.
