Question 1

Does Kia's seven-year warranty cover the automatic gearbox?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the gearbox is part of the warranty, which runs for seven years or 150,000 km from first registration and passes to the next owner. It depends on the car having been serviced to Kia's schedule, and wear items such as brake pads are excluded.

Question 2

Is every Kia hybrid an automatic?

Accepted Answer

Full hybrids and plug-in hybrids such as the Niro and the Sportage hybrid are always automatic. Mild-hybrid versions of the Ceed or Sportage, however, can come with a manual gearbox, so check the exact version.

Question 3

What should I test on a Kia with a dual-clutch?

Accepted Answer

Creep forward in slow traffic and pull away on a slope: it should move smoothly without judder or delay. Ask whether a Kia workshop has updated the gearbox software or carried out any clutch work.

Question 4

Is a Kia automatic gearbox the same as a Hyundai's?

Accepted Answer

Largely, yes: the two brands belong to the same group and share engines and gearboxes, including the dual-clutch units. Parts and workshop experience carry over between them.
