Question 1

Which electric Kia models are there on the used market?

Accepted Answer

The e-Niro, later sold as the Niro EV, and the Soul EV are the older, more compact choices. The EV6 is a larger crossover, the EV3 a newer compact SUV and the EV9 a large SUV with three rows of seats.

Question 2

How do I check the battery of a used Kia e-Niro or EV6?

Accepted Answer

Ask the seller or a Kia dealer for a battery state-of-health reading, which a diagnostic tool can produce. Compare the range shown on a full charge with the figure when new, bearing in mind that heat, cold and frequent fast charging all play a part.

Question 3

Does the Kia warranty pass to the next owner?

Accepted Answer

Kia's factory warranty, battery cover included, stays with the car rather than the owner, so a used Kia keeps whatever is left of it. The date of first registration shows how much remains, and the service record shows whether servicing followed the schedule.

Question 4

Do I pay IUC or ISV on an electric Kia in Portugal?

Accepted Answer

No. Battery-electric cars are exempt from IUC, the annual road tax, and from ISV, the tax paid when a car is imported. An imported used Kia EV therefore registers without that tax.

Question 5

Where can I charge an electric Kia?

Accepted Answer

At home on a wallbox or, more slowly, a standard socket, and in public on the Mobi.E network. The EV6 charges much faster on DC fast chargers than the older e-Niro and Soul EV, which matters on long journeys.
