Question 1

How does the coast around the Ria de Aveiro affect a used Ford?

Accepted Answer

Salt and humidity near Barra, Costa Nova, Ovar and Espinho speed up corrosion of the brake discs, exhaust and underbody. Look under the car and along the sills and door bottoms, particularly on older Fiestas, Focuses and Transits.

Question 2

Diesel or petrol Ford for commuting on the A1, A25 or A29?

Accepted Answer

Regular motorway runs keep the particulate filter of a TDCi or EcoBlue diesel healthy, and many EcoBlue engines also need AdBlue topping up. Every diesel pays an additional IUC charge, so for short trips around town a 1.0 EcoBoost petrol or a hybrid Kuga or Puma is the better match.

Question 3

What should I check on a Ford Transit that worked for a business?

Accepted Answer

Expect high mileage and wear in the load area, and check the clutch, suspension and rear doors. Look at the category on the registration certificate: a van registered as a light goods vehicle follows a different IPO calendar from a passenger car.

Question 4

Where is a Ford bought in Aveiro transferred to my name?

Accepted Answer

The change of ownership is registered at the Registo Automóvel, online or at any registry office in Portugal, not only in Aveiro. Until it is recorded, the seller remains the owner on record and liable for the IUC.
