Question 1

What should I know about Ford's 1.0 EcoBoost engine?

Accepted Answer

Its timing belt runs inside the engine, bathed in oil. The wrong oil or stretched service intervals wear the belt, and debris can block the oil supply, so ask for proof of oil changes and of the belt replacement once it is due.

Question 2

Is a used Ford Fiesta still a sensible buy now it is out of production?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Ford stopped making the Fiesta in 2023, but plenty remain on the road, and Portuguese workshops know them well and find parts easily. Its successor in spirit is the Puma, a small crossover on the same base.

Question 3

Do Ford diesels need AdBlue?

Accepted Answer

Many recent EcoBlue diesels use AdBlue to cut emissions, and the tank needs topping up between services. Any AdBlue warning on the dashboard should be explained before purchase, since repairs can be costly.

Question 4

Can I have the IPO done in Braga on a car bought elsewhere?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The IPO can be carried out at any approved inspection centre in Portugal, whatever the car's origin, and a transfer recorded at the Registo Automóvel is equally valid nationwide.
