Question 1

Which used Alfa Romeo models are there to choose from?

Accepted Answer

Among older cars, the MiTo and Giulietta hatchbacks and the 147 and 159 are the usual choices. Recent ones are the Giulia saloon and the Stelvio and Tonale SUVs. The newer models have a more modern cabin and more driver assistance.

Question 2

Is an Alfa Romeo expensive to maintain?

Accepted Answer

Routine servicing is not unusual for a car of its class; what costs money is maintenance that was skipped. On engines with a timing belt, a missed change can wreck the engine, so ask for proof that it was done on time.

Question 3

Should I choose a diesel, petrol or hybrid Alfa Romeo?

Accepted Answer

The JTDm diesels suit drivers who cover long distances. For mostly urban use, a small petrol engine or one of the Tonale's hybrid versions usually makes more sense. In Portugal the annual IUC depends on engine capacity and CO2, so the choice also shows in road tax.

Question 4

What does Q4 mean on an Alfa Romeo?

Accepted Answer

Q4 is Alfa Romeo's all-wheel drive, offered on versions of the Giulia and Stelvio and on the Tonale plug-in hybrid. It adds grip in the wet but also weight and fuel consumption. Most Giulias are rear-wheel drive and the hatchbacks are front-wheel drive.
