Which Alfa Romeo diesel engine has the best reputation?

The Giulietta's 2.0 JTDm and the Giulia and Stelvio's 2.2 are well regarded when servicing is kept up. On the older 16-valve 1.9 JTDm, check whether the intake manifold swirl flaps have been removed or replaced.

Does the Alfa Romeo Giulia diesel have problems?

The sensitive point is the particulate filter on cars used only in town. Newer versions also use AdBlue, which must be topped up, while the ZF eight-speed gearbox is robust.

Does a diesel Alfa Romeo pay more road tax in Portugal?

Yes, diesel passenger cars pay a surcharge on the IUC that rises with engine size. On a Giulia or Stelvio 2.2 it is larger than on a Giulietta 1.6 JTDm.
