Question 1

Which XC60 engine should I choose?

Accepted Answer

A diesel suits long motorway distances but is held to Crit'Air 2 in low-emission zones. A T6 or T8 plug-in hybrid suits short daily trips you can cover on electricity, while a petrol or mild hybrid sits between the two.

Question 2

What should I check on a plug-in hybrid XC60?

Accepted Answer

Ask how often it was charged, test the electric range from a full battery and check that the charging cable comes with the car. Later versions have a larger battery than the early T8 Twin Engine, so compare like with like.

Question 3

What changed on the Volvo XC60 with the 2022 model year?

Accepted Answer

From the 2022 model year the XC60 gained an infotainment system built on Google's Android Automotive, with Google Maps and Assistant built in. Earlier second-generation cars use Volvo's Sensus system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Question 4

Is a first-generation XC60 still a sensible buy?

Accepted Answer

It can be, as long as you accept that most are diesels, rated Crit'Air 2 or 3 depending on their Euro standard. The second generation is more refined and better equipped, but costs more.
