Question 1

Is the hybrid battery a concern on a used RAV4?

Accepted Answer

Toyota's hybrid batteries have a strong record of lasting the life of the car. A hybrid health check at a Toyota dealer reports their condition, and a full service history in the network can keep extended warranty cover in place.

Question 2

What is the difference between the RAV4 Hybrid and the plug-in hybrid?

Accepted Answer

The self-charging hybrid recharges its small battery while driving and cannot be plugged in. The plug-in hybrid, sold in France as the RAV4 Hybride Rechargeable, has a larger battery that covers many daily trips on electricity alone when charged at home or at work.

Question 3

Can a RAV4 enter low-emission zones?

Accepted Answer

Hybrid and plug-in hybrid RAV4s count as petrol cars and receive Crit'Air 1, the best sticker for a combustion engine. Older diesels get Crit'Air 2 or 3 depending on their Euro standard, which some zones restrict.

Question 4

Is the RAV4's AWD-i a real four-wheel drive?

Accepted Answer

AWD-i adds an electric motor that drives the rear wheels when grip runs short, with no propshaft from the front. It helps on wet or snowy roads and easy tracks, but it is not a low-range off-roader.
