Question 1

Where are most used cars sold in Ille-et-Vilaine?

Accepted Answer

Rennes and its surrounding towns hold most of the department's dealers, so that is where the choice is widest. Saint-Malo, Vitré, Fougères and Redon have their own garages and a steady flow of private sales.

Question 2

What should I check on a car from Ille-et-Vilaine's Saint-Malo coast?

Accepted Answer

Salt air speeds up corrosion, so look at the underbody, the brake lines, the exhaust and the wheel arches. A car that lived in a garage usually fares much better than one parked outside all year.

Question 3

How much does the carte grise cost in Ille-et-Vilaine?

Accepted Answer

The bulk of the price is the regional tax, charged per fiscal horsepower at a rate the Brittany region sets. The more fiscal horsepower a car has, the more it costs to register in Ille-et-Vilaine.

Question 4

Which documents does a seller in Ille-et-Vilaine have to hand over?

Accepted Answer

The certificat d'immatriculation, crossed out and signed, a certificat de cession and, for a car over four years old, a contrôle technique report less than six months old. The certificat de situation administrative confirms there is no lien or objection blocking the transfer.
