Question 1

Is the Dualogic gearbox on a Fiat 500 worth avoiding?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily, but it needs a careful test drive. A Dualogic that hesitates, jerks between gears or shows a gearbox warning may need its clutch or actuator replaced, so a manual gearbox is the simpler choice.

Question 2

What should I check on a Fiat 500C?

Accepted Answer

Open and close the fabric roof several times and look for damp or water marks inside, especially around the seals. The roof slides back like a large sunroof, so the side pillars stay in place.

Question 3

Can a used Fiat 500 drive in French low-emission zones?

Accepted Answer

It depends on its Crit'Air sticker, which follows the fuel and the Euro standard on the carte grise. Recent petrol and mild-hybrid models get Crit'Air 1, diesels get Crit'Air 2 at best, and the electric 500e gets the green sticker allowed everywhere.

Question 4

Is the electric Fiat 500e a different car?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The 500e unveiled in 2020 sits on its own electric platform rather than being a converted petrol 500. Check the battery's state of health and which charging cables come with the car.
