Question 1

Which automatic gearbox does a DS use?

Accepted Answer

Recent DS 3 Crossback, DS 4, DS 7 and DS 9 models use the EAT8 eight-speed automatic with a torque converter. Older DS 4 and DS 5 automatics used the six-speed EAT6.

Question 2

Are the DS E-Tense hybrids automatic?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The plug-in E-Tense versions combine a petrol engine with the e-EAT8 automatic, and the DS 7 E-Tense 4x4 adds a rear electric motor for four-wheel drive. The fully electric DS 3 E-Tense has a single-speed transmission.

Question 3

What should I check on a used DS with the EAT8 automatic gearbox?

Accepted Answer

Drive the car from cold and note any jolts, slow engagement of drive or reverse, or hesitant shifts. Ask whether the gearbox oil has ever been changed and whether software updates were applied by a dealer.

Question 4

Where can an automatic DS be serviced in France?

Accepted Answer

DS stores look after the brand, and because DS shares its engines and gearboxes with Peugeot and Citroën, many workshops in the Stellantis network know the mechanicals. That helps with parts and routine work away from the big cities.
