Question 1

What should I check on a Citroën with the 1.2 PureTech?

Accepted Answer

The 1.2 PureTech's timing belt runs in engine oil and on some cars wears early, shedding debris that can block the oil pump strainer. Ask for invoices showing when the belt was inspected or replaced and which oil was used. Stellantis has extended cover for belt-related damage on many cars, provided servicing was done on schedule.

Question 2

What does the AdBlue warning on a Citroën BlueHDi mean?

Accepted Answer

BlueHDi diesels inject AdBlue, and a warning counting down the kilometres before the engine will no longer start points to an empty tank or a fault. AdBlue tank and pump failures are a known issue on some of these cars. Ask whether the system has been repaired and check that no warning shows on a test drive.

Question 3

Can a teenager drive the Citroën Ami?

Accepted Answer

The Ami is a two-seat electric light quadricycle limited to 45 km/h, so in France it can be driven from 14 with the AM licence. It is meant for town and is not allowed on motorways. Like other electric vehicles it gets the green Crit'Air sticker.

Question 4

Is a Citroën Berlingo registered as a car or a van?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the version. The Berlingo passenger car is registered as VP (voiture particulière), while the Berlingo Van is a CTTE (camionnette), a goods vehicle. The category is shown on the certificat d'immatriculation, so check it matches what you need.
